What issues to pay attention to when using Cummins diesel generators in cold regions
When using Cummins diesel generator sets in cold regions, the following issues should be noted:
① When supplying power to the unit, it is required to place it flat so that the cooling water inside the lubricating oil radiator can be drained completely.
② After draining the engine, start the diesel generator for about 1 minute to drain any remaining cooling water inside the engine.
During normal operation, the diesel generator set suddenly discovered water ingress into the oil pan.
Fault analysis:
During the operation of diesel generators, water ingress into the oil pan is a common fault. This type of malfunction is generally caused by damage to the engine body, cylinder gasket, cylinder head, or cylinder liner.
Fault handling:
① Fill the interior of the water radiator with cooling water.
② Remove the side cover plate of the engine body, shine a flashlight on the inner and outer walls of the lower part of the cylinder liner, and observe whether water droplets flow into the oil pan from the inner wall or from the outer wall. No water leakage was found on the inner and outer walls of the cylinder liner during the inspection process.
③ Using a flashlight to illuminate the opposite body, no abnormalities were found.
④ Using a flashlight to illuminate the opposite side of the machine, it was found that there was a glowing phenomenon inside the opposite side of the machine. After careful inspection, it was found that there was a crack about 25cm above the side cover opening of the engine body that leaked water outward. When the diesel generator started, the pressure of the cooling water increased with the rotation of the water pump, causing the cooling water to enter the oil pan through the crack.
⑤ After replacing the cylinder block (when cracks appear on the outside of the engine body, cast iron welding rods can be used for repair) and conducting a major overhaul of the diesel generator, the diesel generator resumed normal operation, and the above faults were eliminated.
